Since 1994, the EMPOWER Student Information System has helped colleges and universities manage their operations with ease and efficiency. Created by ComSpec International, Inc. – a leader in higher educational software since 1983 – EMPOWER was developed by blending deep knowledge of the education market with decades of expertise in business applications and database design.

EMPOWER is now part of the Harris Computer family, a division of Constellation Software Inc., recognized for its long-term commitment to mission-critical software across specialized industries. Previously, EMPOWER was operated by Phoenix Innovate, whose expertise in education marketing and fundraising helped shape the platform’s development and expand its reach during that period.

Under Harris’ ownership, EMPOWER continues to grow with greater stability, innovation, and a deepened commitment to client success in higher education. We remain dedicated to helping institutions streamline operations, enhance integration and automation, and ultimately achieve their enrollment, retention, and advancement goals.

About EMPOWER Software

EMPOWER was added to the Smithsonian Institution’s permanent research collection on information technology innovation in 1998. The Smithsonian recognizes EMPOWER as “an integrated higher education management system that provides even the smallest colleges with the information technology previously available only to the largest institutions, helping to assure the continuing viability of small colleges.”

EMPOWER was developed through market research and engagement with college administrators, higher education consultants and educational software managers. With a focus on gaining insights around the goals and challenges of key stakeholders in the education market we partnered with a broad cross-section of post-secondary institutions to develop the architecture, interface and features behind EMPOWER.
